Hey guys! Recently I went to the farmers market that they have at my local Whole foods, and ended up cruising into Whole foods to check out the beauty products... it's like a cruelty-free/vegan/fair trade beauty wonderland in there I swear!! HEAVEN.
Anywho.. I was greeted by this AWESOME guy who worked there and for some reason he and I struck up a conversation on all things cruelty-free beauty.. I told him about the blog and instagram etc.. and then something super awesome happened.. he handed me this delicious smelling soap bar called the good soap by Alaffia.. he told me I should look into their philanthropy and that I could keep the soap...SCORE.
First things first this product is not vegan.. it does contain goat milk powder so sorry for my Vegan followers.. but listen up at least about this awesome company.. you won't regret it!
This soap smells amazeballs! it's so sweet and subtle enough not to overwhelm the senses and it lathers so nicely!
But back to the company... Alaffia is AWESOME...
on their Website they state in regards to their mission:
"Alaffia’s success is not simply measured by profit. Our success is measured by empowerment. Empowerment Projects are Alaffia’s mission in action, funded by the sales of Alaffia products. Alaffia invests in our communities because it is our moral responsibility and to ensure African resources empower African communities. The goal is to alleviate poverty and encourage gender equality. Our Empowerment Projects include several Education-Based Projects, Maternal Health, FGM Eradication, Eyeglasses and Reforestation. All of Alaffia’s projects empower Togolese communities to provide their skills and knowledge to the rest of the world and rise out of poverty."
What can we take away from this? Profits from every Alaffia product sold, helps fund community empowerment projects they have in TOGO a country in West Africa.. such projects focus on issues such as:
- Gender equality;
.. Alaffia is all about supporting gender equality; because no matter who you are and no matter where you live on the planet.. and whatever gender you may or may not affiliate with You are IMPORTANT and deserving of equality
This year Alaffia will provide prenatal care for 1000 women in togo, to combat the maternal morality rate there.... because we are IN THIS TOGETHER
Reforestation and Environment
Alaffia plants 10,000 trees a year with rural farmers to prevent soil erosion and the unpredictable onset of various climate changes..
- Bicycle for Education Project;
Not really referenced in the mission statement but since 2006 Alaffia has donated more than 5000 bicycles to disadvantaged students in the togolese communities to encourage them to stay and succeed in school.. because Education is key for a better tomorrow for ALL the human race...
I love stumbling across a company that cares about the people of this planet and who care about this PLANET.. Ecology is sooo important you guys I can't stress this enough...
WE only have one planet let's take care of it and eachother! I personally have never spent too much time in the devastating conditions of third world countries, I am first world advantaged and naive in a lot of ways, I also take a lot of what I have for granted and I realize that.. researching on companies and learning how they are helping disadvantaged people across the world really warms the cockles of my heart.
Way to go Alaffia! Keep being awesome!
